Weekend wrap-up

Weekend wrap-up

wrapping paper, ribbon, and twine

Here’s what happened in my life over the past week:

  • It’s been another crap-tastic week. Part of it is depression, full stop, but another part of it is the yuckiness of the world. Another cop charged with murder, in the killing of Rayshard Brooks. Ongoing minimization of injustice. Someone on Medium posted a video from a news outlet arguing that there isn’t systemic racism because black people kill black people. A Canadian member of parliament got kicked out of the House of Commons because he called another M.P. racist after that M.P. was to only member to vote against a motion recognizing systemic racism within our national police force. I just don’t understand.
  • My doctor faxed a refill of my meds to the pharmacy on Tuesday, so off I went on Wednesday to pick them up. When I got there, the staff person who helped me is someone I recognize from previous visits as being rather out to lunch. After spending some time looking for my pills, he came back and mumbled something at me. Mumbling plus face mask plus plexiglass barrier doesn’t work very well. Anyway, turns out that because they didn’t have the full stock in, they’d just done nothing with the prescription. So I had to wait. And wait. I have very limited distress tolerance ability right no, so I spazzed, and asked them to put a note on my file not to pull that shit again. Hopefully I put a little more fear of the crazy person into them (and yes, it was already there to some extent), and there won’t be a repeat.
  • The visit with my parents last weekend was uneventful. I was over at my brother’s place, where they were staying, for an hour and a bit. I just don’t feel any connection to them at all anymore. That switch appears to be permanently stuck in the off position.
  • I finally managed to figure out which of my plugins was causing the slowness of my WP editor. It was the CoBlocks plugin, which WP had automatically installed, although it’s actually made by GoDaddy. I tried disabling it, but I would’ve had to do some major reformatting on my home page to make that work. So I left a message in the support forum for the CoBlocks plugin, and got in touch with the happiness engineers to ask if they could revert me to the previous version of the plugin. The asshat that I talked to didn’t believe me about what the problem was. The next day I heard back from the plugin people that they’d fixed the issue and released a new version. Problem solved! Take that, happiness engineer! I was right and you were wrong! (Picture me doing the happy dance of a 5-year-old.)

As guests on my blog this week, I had:

With so much heaviness in the news, it’s nice to find some levity here and there. This week, the Canadian CBC News site had a story about an Austrian man who was fined 500€ for farting at police. The CBC story quotes the local police force as saying the person who was fined “let go a massive intestinal wind apparently with full intent.” I wonder if other sources of hot air would be fine-able?

During playtime on the bed, Butternut is in full horndog mode because of the girls’ cage nearby. You can kind of see at the end of this video as he’s running away that he’s giving a full crotch view, and that’s part of his silly horndogging.

Don’t put all your pigs in one basket! This is inspired by a photo I see this morning on Bree, Interrupted.

How has your week been?

  1. I am just glad for the weekend with my evening job now being tiring etc.. A shorter week next with, as I have holiday from work. So nice long weekend to look forward to next week and plans I have for that weekend at home.

Sorry to hear you had a crappy week. The world is not making crappy moods better.

Oh, don’t get me started with those happiness engineers.

      1. Yes. They are up to something seeing that, that’s happening to your blog. I hope they get back to you soon and fix it.

  2. I’m sorry that it wasn’t a great week. You’re right, the world is yucky right now. Christmas and 2021 can’t come quickly enough. Remember though that in many ways you are lucky and that yucky as it maybe, there are still some great things about life.

  3. Oh, my. If deliberate flatulence were punished more often, I’d be serving a life sentence. It’s on my bucket list to get a police officer to pull my finger. The problem is that no one will ever do it more than once, once they find out what happens! 😀

I totally hear you about getting your meds, and it’s something I lost the ability to cope with a few years ago. As of then, my dad’s been in charge of picking up my meds for me. I just can’t handle it at all, so I hope that helps you feel better about the futility of it all. And that’s so lame that they were mumbling about how they were out of stock of your meds. LAME! Ugh. It all upsets me too.

So, do they really call themselves the happiness engineers? I guess I’ve never contacted them? At least they have a bitter sense of irony in naming themselves, so there’s that.

Oh, the guineas are so precious and horny! I love it!!

My week has been great. I’ve been in a productivity and creativity high! Wow! Yeah, it’s just been great. Here’s to next week being great for both of us!!

  4. Hahahaha, cracked up – “farting at a police man” lol.

I’ve also been in touch with a happiness engineer who tells me it’s their fault and tho’ they’ve fixed the current problem it will now only show 20 of my posts in the reader thingy!!! Aarrghhh, I too lack the patience and tolerance……. Even typing this, I’m getting on my own nerves lol.

  5. Sending lots of (virtual) care your way! <3 I'm sorry you had a crappy week and that the world has been particularly crap-tastic recently. Thank goodness for cute animals and hilarious fart-related stories to add some cheer into our lives.

  6. I’m glad you got your plug-in issue resolved! My week was okay. I’m back at the office more, which makes me happy. But I’ve had a lot of headaches, boo. I’m also off the Topamax now, so that’s to be expected. Hopefully I’ll feel mentally sharper…

  7. Wow, that’s very unprofessional of the pharmacy. I do hope you’ve made it crystal clear that it’s not to happen again, even without being the crazy lady lol.

  8. The Austria news! My best friend used to work there. Yeah..And when they use one tragic death in comparison to another to make a statement, I’d rather skip on that.

  9. Sometimes when I get my medication there isn’t enough in stock, so I need to come back another day but they usually manage to give me half of it so I can manage.
I don’t like to wait too! Hopefully it will be resolved and not repeated!

  10. I had stress at the pharmacy too. I was out of my anti anxiety meds and the doctor wrote the wrong date on my refill–for two weeks out. I spent the afternoon in calls back and forth between the pharmacy and doctors office. As the afternoon wore on I came nearer and nearer to a panic attack. While at work of course. An hour before the end of the work day finally it was fixed. Every eye in the pharmacy was on the crazy woman waiting for me to have a nervous breakdown then and there. I paid and practically ran out.

  11. Hi, Ashley. News is not mood leavening. May people try to empathize and make peace.

We took our smallest Xanax dose in 4 or 5 years last night. We also slept well for the first time since starting new meds at month’s onset. Lack of sleep and heavy exertion led to the sleep probably.

It’s fathers day here and we sent a short email to father. Did not see him. Kids and Spouse treat us pretty well everyday so it’s not an atypical day here. We won’t have to cook dinner, which is a treat indeed.

Thanks for the video of your babies. The sounds are fun. Littles like that! 💕❤️💕💙

    1. I’m so glad you had a good night’s sleep! And not having to cook dinner sounds lovely!

I love the guinea pigs’ noises, and they’re so expressive. My favourite noise is the cluck-cluck-cluck kind of noise they make when they’re exploring the world. ❤️❤️❤️

  12. Really sorry you’ve had such a crappy week, hope that at least the depression part will become a bit more manageable soon. With all the different kinds of shit going on around the world right now it’s bound to put loads of people in emotional crises.
Happiness Engineers… had no direct contact with those people but their title sounds awfully megalomaniac. 😀
It can feel pretty awful when you don’t feel able to connect to people anymore, especially such that you used to get along with well and have reasonably good relationships with.

  13. It’s bloody annoying when a pharmacy has the prescription in their possession and knows they don’t have the stock, but don’t do anything about it. They could order it as soon as they get it, but sometimes they just wait until you go in to collect it before doing anything. Why?!

Sorry you’ve had such a crappy week. And I’m sorry that connection with your family just isn’t there. I hope that changes in future, you never do know how things will go. Maybe? Or wishful thinking, I don’t know. On the plus side, it’s good you at least got the WP issue cleared up. Not that it makes up for a shitty week but at least it’s one less shit to add to the pile. And a little provocative farting (who knew farting provocatively was even a thing?) brings some light relief, so to speak.

I hope this week can be a little brighter in some way. Sending hugs, Ashley xx

  14. I was kicked out of a McDonalds for farting too loud when I was a teenager. Who can resist those plastic booths, they make farts 200% louder.
Sorry your week was crap, hope this one is better 🙂

  15. I’m taking a page out of your book for sure! I’ll have my doctors my a note in my files “don’t pull that shit on me again”. Also this new editor just doesn’t work. I even got help from the WordPress tech people and they thought it was my browser. I had to change my theme a bunch of times… the editor really messed up my blog.
Also I love the Guinea pig pictures ❤️ so cute!

    1. There should be an official “don’t fuck with me” stamp that can be put in health records everywhere.

I wonder if WordPress has been doing some mass recruiting of people who’ve been living in a cave for the last 20 years and aren’t familiar with the internet…

      1. I know right! …on both!
I got inspired at 11pm and hit up the help desk to get a new doctor. Thought I might get more luck with the night shift crew! I ended getting a new primary doctor and today 6/24 @ 9am have an actually real, walk in appointment! I was even given a HRT specialist to call that takes my insurance. Thank you LORDT! All it took was not waiting till morning. Who knew?
        Thanks for inspiring me!
