Weekend Wrap-Up

Weekend wrap-up

wrapping paper, ribbon, and twine

Here’s what happened in my life over the past week:

  • Thanks to Rory of A Guy Called Bloke for gifting me a compliment on my post Farewell, WordPress Editor…
  • It puzzles me when I get book reviews on Amazon where the person was expecting one thing when the book description was very clear that it was not that thing. Do people just not read book descriptions? That seems very odd.
  • Sometimes negative comments are so out there that they’re just amusing. I had someone over on Medium comment on a debunking pseudoscience post I’d originally published here on whether Crystals Have Healing Powers. This person was apparently a crystal devotee, and decided to go all Spazzy McSpazzerson. One of the grasping for hot air points that this person raised was that I hadn’t written about “the Christians” and their use of holy water, and why was I afraid of the Christians? Sometimes, a wacky, rambling negative comment is a fun adventure!
  • I realized I was trying to keep up with too many blogs and it was getting a bit overwhelming, so I decided it was time to pare it down a bit and do some unfollowing. I like reading blogs, but it’s something I need to revisit every so often so that I maintain a good balance between reading and doing other things.
  • My mood’s been low and I’ve been fairly irritable this week. My little man Peanut likes to chew on the cage bars to announce that it’s time for food. When that happens around the appropriate time for food, it’s cute. But for some reason this week he was just going to town with it, and it was a pain in the ass. Very briefly rubbing essential oil on the bars acted as a deterrent, but then he realized that wasn’t going to hurt him, so that was the end of that.
  • I spent quite a bit of time fussing around with block editor-ifying my site. The refusal to save/schedule because of an “invalid JSON response” is certainly annoying. I don’t know what the hell a JSON response is, nor do I care, but WordPress really needs to make it not my problem.

As guests on my blog this week, I had:

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“History will have to record the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.”

Dr. King

  1. My week has been rough. Struggling with depression, a lot of household stuff not working/having to be replaced (dishwasher, clothes dryer, etc.), had no water for a day due to well issues, seeing America burn…

  2. I guess the solution to some of the points you made would be speaking redundant things and discard articulate thinking. There will always be that crystal inamorato.

  3. Wow, little Peanut has plenty to say!! “Feed me! Feed me! Give me attention!” How adorable!! What a sweetheart!

My week has been interesting! It was partly bad due to some severe menstrual hormones. But then it got better. Yesterday, I worked hard for our semi-annual junk pickup project, and then I did a day of beauty by bleaching my hair, shaving my legs, etc. Oh! And, God bless my kind and benevolent government. I FREAKIN’ GOT THE GOVERNMENT STIMULUS CHECK! Even though I’m a dependent of my dad’s! Oh, praise God. I was so happy I screamed. Now I have money! This is great! I want to buy one of those toothbrushes that flosses your teeth while you brush. (For the life of me, I can’t be disciplined enough to floss.) I think it would be a great investment. Life is so weird, it can turn on a dime.

Here’s to us both having great weeks next week!!

  4. I lost a day this week. I thought it was Thursday yesteday when it was Friday. I realised it was Friday not quite half way into my morning.
I realise losing track of day started Thursday, when I thought it was Wednesday.

Weather has been good. But it’s been hot in my flat, regardless of me closing the curtains.
I closed curtains for the hamsters sake.
Today is another hot day and looking at room thermometer, I could see slightly too hot for hammy. I bet it’s been a bit too hot for some of the days this week for him. So I needed to bring the temperature down for him. I have the fan on right now. (Not directly on him.) I hope to bring it down to a comfortable level.
But when fan is not on because of me being at work, I shall have a frozen bottle if water on the outside of his cage where he sleeps, so he can choose to cool down that way.

  5. “I don’t know what the hell a JSON response is, nor do I care, but WordPress really needs to make it not my problem. “

    Amen. And ditto “404 error”.

You are, and remain, someone wonderful to us 💕❤️

  6. I think a lot of people on Amazon don’t understand Amazon, or reviews. You get reviews where it says “I wanted X, but it was Y” where it’s fairly clear that the product is Y, or you get negative reviews of the product where they’re really upset about the Amazon Market Place seller, not the product, or vice versa. It’s quite scary how confused people can be.

  7. Lol? Crystals, holy water, where’s the logic here? 😀 Or as we say in Polish, what has a gingerbread to do with a windmill?! :O Certainly an interestingly bizarre point of view.
Mishmish has also his strange habits around food, when he wants a treat and I ignore him, either because I’m asleep or have more important things to do at this very moment or have just given him a treat and don’t think it’s the right time just yet, he will scratch the armchair in my room. It’s hard to make him unlearn that, unless you’d give in to all his whims whenever he wants. So the armchair doesn’t look particularly representative by now, especially considering that it’s mostly used by visitors, haha.
Oh no, that must be really annoying with the block editor considering that you schedule so many of your posts.

    1. It seems like the only options that could stop those kind of pet behaviours are giving in to all of their whims or giving in to none of them, and neither of those are appealing.

  8. Always a pleasure Ashley – sorry l am later responding – my June 1st WordPress gift was seven comments from as long as a week ago … mm l can see this month being fun 🙂

  9. Hugs. Wow at the crystal person. As for pets, I’m sad one of my landlady’s cats doesn’t like me anymore. I tried petting her twice but she swiped claws and tried to bite me. I need to read cat body language better.

I don’t get that JSON WordPress error but get some generic error on my drafts failing to save. Annoying.

My week’s just been full of muscle pain – including in weird, TMI areas of my body!

    1. Tension shows up in the body in weird ways.

I don’t read cat body language very well, and their behaviour always strikes me as a bit arbitrary

      1. Oh yeah, Queen (my nickname for the one with white, black and brown patches) didn’t seem to be behaving different. She sniffed my hand, I tried to pat her head and yikes! I’m giving her space. She did join me during yoga though! Clawed my laid out foldable bed that I was using as a mat! 😂

  10. Sounds like Peanut needs the equivalent to those nail polishes that deter you from chewing your nails. I’m sorry you’ve felt so low and irritable, I hope it can ease up a little this week. And paring down the blogs is a good idea too, it gets exhausting when you’ve got too many to go through and that’s not going to help matters. As for the comment on your article, wow, just wow… 😂 xx

  11. Taking a break from blogging made me come back with a pair of fresh eyes. I need to unfollow here and there too.
I hope your mood lifts up a bit. I still struggle in the energy departement (what’s new?) and I can’t concentrate, so reading is out of the window for now. But still if I was able to read, I would read a summary of a book to have a hint of what it is about instead of being disapointed.

  12. For heaven’s sake, what’s up Peanut? Has he been chill lately? I do hope this week has been better for both of you. 🌧☀️🌈
